Prince William once revealed that he gifted a peculiar thing to Kate Middleton during the early days of their dating life which, in his opinion, actually "sealed the deal" for his then-future wife.
While having a discussion on worst gifts on BBC’s That Peter Crouch Podcast in 2020, the Prince of Wales was asked about any bad gifting memory.
He replied, "I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once. She’s never let me forget that."
"That was early on in the courtship, that was, I tell you what, I think that sealed the deal. She fell for me at that point," the 41-year-old heir to the throne alluded.
The working royal added jokingly, "I think I was convincing myself about it. I was like, ‘These are amazing look how far you can see!"
He went on to share the reaction Princess of Wales gave him, "She started looking at me going, 'They're binoculars. What's going on?"
The oldest son of monarch confessed, "It didn’t go well…Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars."
William and Kate crossed paths at St Andrews University in 2001 and a decade later tied the knot.
Over the period, the couple must have exchanged many gifts but as Princess Kate rings in to her 42nd birthday on Tuesday a royal expert Jennie Bond suggested that the couple could "spend some quality time with their children."
"As it’s the last day of their[children's] Christmas holiday before they return to school, but perhaps a candle-lit champagne dinner will be on the cards," she noted.
