Hollywood box office: Highs and lows of 2023

The Hollywood box office saw epic highs and major lows in 2023; from hits like Taylor Swift’s The Eras tour film and Timothee Chalamet’s Wonka to duds like Aquaman, the box office closed out 2023 with a bang.

While the Eras tour shatters records in China, the much anticipated Wonka ended 2023 on a high note too, but the Warner Bros. Aquaman continued to disappoint. 

To note, Swift’s Eras tour film landed in Chinese cinemas on December 31st across 15000 screens; it had already earned a massive amount of $250.34 million at the worldwide box office excluding China.

Although the Hollywood box office minted money in 2023 it suffered its own set of challenges with Aquaman 2 on the decline.

Jason Momoa’s Aquaman 2 is struggling greatly just like other DC superhero films. As per reports obtained by Deadline the film earned just $19.5 million.

The SAG-AFTRA strike also contributed to Hollywood lows in 2023. The box office hopes for a blessed 2024 with never-ending releases and superhits.
