AJ McLean kicked off the new year with a heartbreak, annoucning that he and his estranged wife Rochelle DeAnna were headed for divorce following the couple's year-long separation.

The Backstreet Boys' founding member made this shocking announcement on his Instagram on Monday, January 1.

He posted a joint statement that began, "As you all know we have been separated for over a year now. While we have hoped for reconciliation we have decided to officially end our marriage."

While noting the couple’s effort to sort things before ending their marriage of over a decade, the 45-year-old singer continued, "It is with deep love and respect that we have made this decision."

The statement further read that the former couple, who share two daughters, 11-year-old Elliott and six-year-old Lyric, would continue to co-parent their girls after their amicable divorce.

"Our focus now is moving forward in the healthiest possible way with friendship and co-parenting our girls at the forefront of this next chapter. We appreciate your kindness, respect and privacy at this time.

"Thank you, Alexander and Rochelle McLean," the statement concluded with an urge to give the couple some room during the sensitive time.
