South Korean actor Lee Sun Kyun, known for his role as Park Dong-ik in Oscar winning movie, Parasite, has met an untimely demise.
Reports from the police revealed that the 48-year-old actor was found lifeless in a car parked in central Seoul, on Wednesday, December 27.
Yonhap news agency said it is too early to pronounce his death as a suicide, however the police received a distressing call, hinting at a troubling note left behind by the actor before he left the home.
HODU&U Entertainment mourned their client’s death in a statement that read, "He has no way to contain his sorrow and despair".
They continued, "We respectfully ask that you refrain from spreading false based on speculation…so that [kyun’s] final journey will not be unfair".
Survived by his wife, actress Jeon Hey-Jin, and their two sons, the news of South Korea’s top actor’s demise has ignited public outrage.
Fans expressed their anger at the intense scrutiny Kyun faced during drug trials.
A fan commented, "What’s crazy as is that man tested negative for drugs in like 3 rounds of investigation and they still were not letting up. And it was only marijuana and sleeping pills and he swore he didn’t know what he was taking. But all that aside none of that shit was worth his life".
"They harassed him over drug allegations for months..treated him like a damn criminal and this is the result...I'm devastated..he was a brilliant actor," a second user pointed.
For the unversed, the My Mister actor was suspected of drug intake in October along with an employee at a bar in Seoul.
While he vehemently denied the hostess' claims that she delivered the drugs to his home, the Hard Day actor did admit that he had unknowingly consumed illicit drugs provided by the hostess.
In an attempt to clear his name, he also insisted through his lawyer to take lie detector tests; in addition, his drug test also returned negative or inconclusive.
News1 Korea reported that the Police expressed regret over Kyun's death, highlighting that the investigation was carried out with his consent.
