Ryan O' Neal cause of death disclosed: report

Ryan O’Neal’s official cause of death has been revealed following his demise at the age of 82 on December 8.

According to death certificate obtained by the Blast on Friday, December 22, the Peyton Place star passed away due to congestive heart failure after suffering from cardiomyopathy for years.

The legendary actor was hospitalized at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California at the time of his passing.

Page Six also confirmed that the death certificate listed no other factors that contributed to his death.

The Paper Moon actor’s burial took place at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary.

O’Neal’s death was initially confirmed by his son, Patrick O’Neal in a lengthy Instagram post earlier this month.

The 56-year-old son, who did not share the cause of his father’s death that time, began the heartfelt caption, "this is the toughest thing I’ve ever had to say but here we go. My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side supporting him and loving him as he would us".

He also penned that his father has been his hero and detailed O’Neal’s journey from an actor to a Hollywood Legend.

Following her brother, O’Neal’s daughter, Tatum O’Neal also shared her grief with PEOPLE.

"I feel great sorrow with my father’s passing. He meant the world to me. I loved him very much and know he loved me too," she told the outlet.

The youngest Academy award winner boasts this honor under her belt for working along her father in 1973’s Paper Moon.
