Andre Braugher’s, the fan-favorite captain Raymond Holt in crime comedy Brooklyn Nine Nine series, cause of death has been revealed.
According to Page Six, his spokesperson shared to the outlet that the legendary actor passed away after losing a months-long battle with lung cancer.
On Thursday, December 14, the outlet revealed that Braugher, who died at the age of 61, had been diagnosed with the chronic disease just “a few months” prior to his passing.
The news of the death of the Homicide: Life on the Street star was broken on the internet on Monday, December 11, which sent the fans and friends of the artists into an utter shock.
His castmates from Brooklyn Nine Nine took to their social media accounts to honor the late actor, including Terry Crews.
“Can’t believe you are gone so soon,” he wrote.
The 55-year-old TV host and actor added, “I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent.”
Braugher is survived by his wife, Ami Brabson, and their three children, Michael Braugher, 31, Isaiah Braugher, 27, and 20-year-old John Wesley Braugher.
Joe Lo Truglio, who played Charles Boyle in the widely acclaimed series, penned a heartfelt message for the actor saying, “all my love goes to his wife Ami and his three boys, who he loved very much and flew back every weekend from the show to be with.”
The 53-year-old artist also revealed, “He spoke often about his sons, and knew how lucky he was to have Ami. I’m grateful to them for allowing us to share eight years with him.”
