Jennifer Aniston cleared the air around Matthew Perry’s death in the wake of presumptions he was not feeling well before he tragically passed away in late October.
Variety published an interview on Monday, December 11, in which Aniston, 54, spoke out for the first time following Perry's death.
She revealed that Perry, who died at the age of 54, “Quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy–that’s all I know.”
As her The Morning Show co-star Reese Witherspoon held Aniston’s hand, she continued with teary eyes, “I was literally texting him that morning, funny Matty.”
“He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy,” the Break Up actress alluded.
She went on to insist that the Friends co-star did not relapse as some believed otherwise, stemming from his year-long battle with alcohol and drug addiction.
She told the outlet, “I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard.”
“He really was dealt a tough one. I miss him dearly. We all do. Boy, he made us laugh really hard,” The Cake actress added.
According to Page Six, a source told the outlet that Aniston was “struggling” with the loss of her longtime beloved friend.
The source added, “It’s a second massive loss in less than a year, with one-year anniversary of her dad’s death just around the corner.”
“She still hasn’t fully regained her footing from that, and now this has just completely knocked her off her feet”, the insider continued, “She is trying to regroup and recover but it’s been a completely devastating blow.”
Perry died on October 28, after allegedly drowning in a hot tub at home.
However, his cause of death has not been revealed officially as his toxicology report is still pending.
Shortly after his passing, a private memorial at a cemetery in Los Angeles was attended by the Murder Mystery actresses where Aniston reportedly arrived first.
