Meryl Streep and her husband Don Gummer have “chosen lives apart” after 45 years of marriage.
Born as Mary Louise Streep and famously known as Meryl, the 74-year-old actress and the lauded sculptor, 76, “will always care for each other” despite being separated for over six years.
According to Page Six, a spokesperson for the Oscar winning icon shared, “Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart.”
The news may come as a huge blow to the actress’s global fan base, as she was spotted wearing her wedding band on Saturday, October 20, at the Princesa de Asturias Awards 2023.
The separated couple share four children including singer and songwriter, Henry Wolfe, 43, actress Mamie gummer, 40, Grace Gummer, 37 and the youngest of all, Louisa Jacobson, 30.
The Mamma Mia! star and Gummer were initially introduced by her brother, Harry on 1978 when the actress was mourning the loss of her late boyfriend and Deer Hunter co-star John Cazale, who had succumbed to lung cancer.
Streep and Gummer got married in the same year after six months of courtship and have since maintained a low profile relationship.
In 2017, after Streep won the award for Best Actress for her performance in The Iron Lady, she thanked her husband saying, “First, I’m going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech, they play him out with music.”
“I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives you’ve given me,” she added.
The couple has consistently attended the Oscars as Streep often got nominated in the Academy Award, with 21 nominations in total, out of which she has won three.
