John Stamos admits former wife Rebecca Romijin “wasn’t the Devil”

John Stamos has opened up about feeling “shattered,” after his marriage with Rebecca Romijin imploded the way it did.

The American actor, 60, in his upcoming memoir If You Would Have Told Me, candidly recounted the ebbs and flows of his love story with Romijn, 50.

The former couple tied the knot in 1998 and divorced six years later. The Full House alum delved into the aftermath of his divorce in the early 2000s within the pages of his memoir, which is set to be released on October 24.

According to PEOPLE, the actor shared, “My first marriage was shattering to me. I was shattered for way too long, too," he added, "I mean, a year, okay, good. But it went on [for] years and years."

Sharing about his former marriage was “really difficult” for Stamos, especially when he had to confront his feelings from that time, he explained.

"In my mind back then, she was the Devil, and I just hated her," Stamos wrote. "I couldn't believe how much I hated her, and it ruined my life.”

Stamos continued, “Looking back, I talk about it [in the book], because it's one of the steps in AA [alcoholic anonymous] where the fourth step is you lay out all your grievances, everything that people did to you. I go like, None."

But the Secrets of Eden actor came to realize that he had "some part" in the downfall of his first marriage, saying, "You start thinking, it's like, 'Oh, she wasn't the Devil. Maybe I was as much to blame as her.'"

Stamos has not seen Romijn since their joint meeting with their divorce attorneys.

He moved on and married Caitlin McHugh Stamos in 2018, with whom he shares a 5-year-old son Billy.

Meanwhile, Romijn exchanged vows with husband Jerry O'Connell in 2007 and shares two children.
