Destiny 2 has found a new voice actor to replace Lance Reddick as Commander Zavala, following his death in March.
In an official statement, game developer Bungie revealed Zavala will be voiced by Keith David in the upcoming The Final Shape expansion.
“The team is excited for what [Keith David] brings to the role of the Commander. We will always remain respectful to the role Zavala has played thus far, and look forward to the journey ahead,” said the statement.
They also assured that the later actor’s existing lines in the game “will remain untouched for the upcoming release.”
David expressed enthusiasm about the latest casting, heralding the John Wick actor for his great work before his passing.
“I am honored to continue the great work of Lance Reddick as Zavala,” a statement on Bungie’s website blog read. “Lance captured the character’s sense of integrity so wonderfully. It is my intention to continue that work.”
Renowned for his roles in films, including Nope, They Live, and The Thing among others, David has had a substantial experience in voice-over work to back his casting.
In fact, Bungie also worked with the 67-year-old actor during its time on the Halo series, where he voiced The Arbiter.
Reddick was announced dead on March 18 in a statement from his family, only days shy from the release of the fourth installment of John Wick.
As per the autopsy reports, the late actor died due to underlying heart issues.
