Ivan Cornejo has signed up for a label.
Ivan Cornejo, one of the young singer-songwriters driving the renaissance of traditional Mexican music, has joined Interscope Records.
After his recently announced Terapia Tour, which will make stops in cities like New York, Las Vegas, and Houston with extra dates in Mexico, sold out, the 19-year-old native of southern California found himself in the middle of a major label bidding war. The journey began in Chicago, and Lollapalooza was the most recent destination.
“At Interscope we have always been attracted to artists who move culture, and Ivan has already proven he is on that path,” said John Janick, chairman and chief executive officer of Interscope Geffen A&M Records.
“He is absolutely one of the most exciting new artists in music and we are looking forward to working with him and his team on the next chapter of his incredible career.”
With his tear-jerking viral hit "Esta Daada," the multi-platinum-selling musician first came to public attention and propelled Cornejo onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
"Aqu Te Espero," Cornejo's first song in nearly seven months, was just released. The deluxe edition of "Daado," which was released in December 2022 by Manzana Records, was his final full-length album. The album produced songs like "La Curiosidad" and "Perro Abandonado," which are streamed frequently.
“I am really excited to begin this new chapter of my career,” added Cornejo in a statement. “It’s been a long road even though my career is young and we have built a really strong foundation up until now. I am looking forward to working with John and Nir and the entire team at Interscope to continue to build and take my project to the next level.”
Josh Binder of Rothenberg, Mohr & Binder, LLP, Richard Vega, and Richard Lom of WME all worked on behalf of Cornejo in the transaction.
