Cillian Murphy sings praises for Tom Hardy: 'one of the best actors'

For almost 30 years, Cillian Murphy has been showcasing his acting prowess to the world.

He has collaborated with some of the most well-known figures in the entertainment world, and he has referred to one as the "best in the business."

Before the release of his most recent movie, Oppenheimer, in theatres throughout the world, the star sat down with GQ.

For the first time in his collaboration with director Christopher Nolan, Murphy will take the lead role.

Together, the two have produced The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and Dunkirk, and now the biopic about physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who contributed to the development of the atomic bomb, has brought out their best work.

He was questioned about potential collaborations with Tom Hardy, his co-star in Peaky Blinders and The Dark Knight Rises.

"He's one of the best actors in the business," Cillian said about Tom to GQ.

"And we've developed this great trust and shorthand and there's a nice kind of chemistry, I think, between the two of us. I'd love to work with him again. Maybe there'll be a Peaky Blinders film. Maybe we'll get to do it there. I'm not sure."

He was then questioned if there was any update on the movie about the legendary TV show.

Murphy replied: "I have no update for you, man. I'm waiting to hear, but it's a tricky time with all these strikes and everything going on. I’ve always said that if there's more story to tell, I'd be there."

The actor has received the same response each time this question has been asked of him on the Oppenheimer press tour.

That project is now very much in flux, and it's unclear when we'll learn more about it or receive official word that it's happening at all.

However, Cillian is relishing reading all the press coverage about his most recent movie, especially in light of the amount of effort he put into it.

He acknowledged to GQ that because he was so involved in the role, he wasn't much fun on set.

"I knew that a lot of the weight was on my shoulders, even though we have this incredible ensemble," he said.

"There was a responsibility that I felt about playing the part. That's just the way I work. I get very consumed by the work, and I don't really have time for hanging out."
