Tom Cruise is as good as a stuntman as he is as an actor.
It goes without saying that each new "Mission: Impossible" film features larger and better stunts.
The franchise has become known for thrilling action scenes that keep viewers on the edge of their seats, including scenes with Tom Cruise dangling from a plane and dazzling motorcycle jumps.
Tom Cruise, the main actor, performs the stunts, according to Christopher McQuarrie, the director of the last three "Mission: Impossible" movies.
"The challenge, normally, when you are shooting an action movie is that you are always trying to hide the fact that it's a stuntman and not the actor. In 'Mission: Impossible,' it is the opposite: You are trying to show that it is Tom and not a stuntman," he said.
On July 12, "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One" will be released in theatres. It is a Paramount Pictures production, which is a subsidiary of CBS News' parent corporation. Its much-awaited release comes after a four-year hiatus since the debut of the last instalment, "Mission: Impossible - Fallout."
Beginning with their work on the 2008 thriller "Valkyrie," Cruise and McQuarrie have been working together for more than 15 years. According to McQuarrie, their collaboration began out of a shared desire for a creative connection.
"The only reason I was thinking about leaving the film business was that I didn't really have a creative partner. I didn't have a creative net. And that was our very first meeting, talking about the kind of movies we wanted to make, why we make movies. and Tom was somebody who's very straightforward about, "I make mass entertainment,'" he said.
