YouTube to introduce AI-generated dubbing feature in future videos
The upcoming feature is already being tested with 100s of creators
YouTube will now allow creators to dub their videos into several different languages with the help of new AI software.
The video platform announced the upcoming feature at VidCon 2023, that will help the content reach a wider audience with the barricade of language soon to be removed.
The software will be developed by Aloud, an AI-powered dubbing service, which is also a part of Google’s Area 120 incubator.
Speaking to The Verge, YouTube’s Amjad Hanif noted that the feature is already being tested with a "hundred" of creators.
He also shared that Aloud, which is currently available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, will be soon equipped with more languages.
According to the software’s website, the dubbing tool provides a transcription of the content which can be reviewed and edited according to the creator’s preferences.
The transcription is then translated and a dub is produced.
In due course, YouTube is "working to make translated audio tracks sound like the creator’s voice, with more expression, and lip sync," confirmed Hanif.
As for now, the option can be availed at an educational channel, Amoeba Sisters, which has the option to change the audio to Spanish.
