Scarlett Johansson has reflected on the consequences of the ongoing writer’s strike during an appearance at Tuesday’s New York premiere of Asteroid City.
The Black Widow actress walked the beige carpet in a white pleated floor-length dress and was joined by the likes of her husband Colin Jost.
Speaking to Variety, Johansson said, "Whatever happens moving forward will forever change how revenue is determined."
The Writers Guild of America has been on strike since the beginning of May against the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers, demanding a new, better contract that promises an increase in pay as well as better working conditions.
"It’s a thing that has needed to happen for a long time, that we’ve been talking about for a long time, and it’s finally reached this breaking point," the actress continued. "It’s important for all of us creatives to unite and support this massive shift so we can get over to the other side, which we will."
A potential actor’s strike is predictably on the cards, which could foist disastrous effects on marketing campaigns for upcoming film releases, including Oppenheimer and Barbie among others.
Snoop Dogg endorsed the notion in an interview with Variety last month, saying that "artists need to figure it out the same way the writers are figuring it out."
