King Charles is honouring for the sake of his mother.

King Charles is thanking the members of the Royal Navy who took part in the state funeral for his mother, Queen Elizabeth.

Around 150 members of the Royal Naval Service received Royal Victorian Orders from the King at Windsor Castle on Tuesday morning. The awards were given in a special parade and medal presentation to the person who participated in his mother's funeral processions in September 2022.

On September 19, the State Gun Carriage carrying Queen Elizabeth's coffin was drawn through London by a company of nearly 100 Naval Ratings. Since King Edward VII, sailors have hauled the State Gun Carriage at funerals for British monarchs after horses used to transport Queen Victoria's corpse at her funeral in 1901 nearly toppled it due to spookiness, according to CNN.

According to Buckingham Palace, King Charles, 74, made the appointments to the Royal Victorian Order in March 2023 through the demise honours list, which is normally made public after the death of the monarch to reward people who have rendered personal service. Queen Victoria established the Royal Victorian Order in 1896 as a way to honour those who supported or advocated for her. The honoree is chosen by the ruling monarch.

Tuesday's hour-long service began with a unique parade in which the band and staff entered Windsor Castle's Quadrangle from the George IV Gate. A Royal Salute and a performance of the National Anthem from the dais greeted King Charles as he came through the Sovereign's Entrance with the First Sea Lord.

As he proceeded down the queue, King Charles graciously spoke while presenting medals to each person. While shaking hands with other soldiers and women, the King spoke with Paisley Chambers-Smith, a medical assistant who is seven months pregnant.

Following the presentation of the awards, the King went back to the dais for a second Royal Salute and the National Anthem to signal the conclusion of the parade. He joked and talked with the recipients' families, giving off the impression that he was in a pleasant mood.
