Sydney Sweeney wants to do something “different”.

After getting her big break with Euphoria back in 2019, Sydney Sweeney is speaking out about her career choices and revealing why she feels she's "shocked" people with the roles she's chosen to play.

Sweeney took the opportunity to explain why she consciously seeks to break from a certain type of role in a recent interview with Variety to promote her new movie Reality, in which she plays real-life former intelligence specialist Reality Winner. This explanation may surprise some.

“There’s always people who see me as Cassie [Howard, from Euphoria] or see me as Olivia [Mossbacher from The White Lotus],” Sweeney said.

“They send me scripts that are just like that. It’s the ones I have to fight for that usually are the ones that I want that are different, like Reality.”

Sweeney also revealed that, in order to disprove doubters, she had to audition for her Reality part "just like everyone else."

“It was the same for White Lotus,” the actor added. “They didn’t think that I was right for [it] because I did Euphoria. So I put myself on tape, I auditioned for White Lotus just like everybody else and had a call back like everybody else. I could get offered roles that are similar to the ones that I’ve played, but the ones that are different, the ones that surprise people that I do, are the ones that I usually have to fight for.”

Sydney Sweeney had 'so much fun' with Glen Powell

Another of those many roles is coming up, right? Sweeney will play opposite Glen Powell in the upcoming romantic comedy Anyone But You, her first step into the genre.

“It was so much fun, honestly. We laughed every single day and the cast and the crew were just a bunch of really great people, and we all got along. It felt like summer camp. It was a great breather from everything else I’ve done,” the actor expressed about her first rom-com experience, hinting that she “might look for some more.”

Sweeney is looking forward to resuming Cassie's role when Euphoria season 3 ultimately begins production despite worries about being typecast.

“I just hope that I get to continue to challenge myself as an actor and get to go to crazy places through her because she’s such a crazy, dramatically heightened character, and it’s fun to play her,” the actor added. “Whatever Sam decides he wants to do with her, I fully intrust in Sam’s vision. I’m excited.”
