Prince Harry and Prince William reportedly went on a "secret" meeting with Princess Diana’s most trusted butler Paul Burrell in hopes to "shed light on memories" of their late mother.

According to The Sun, the brothers approached Paul in 2017, a week before Prince Harry’s engagement to Meghan Markle to speak to the former butler about unanswered questions of their mother.

Their need to approach Burrell came after the duo had a falling out for the latter publishing a book of the late princess, a move which the brothers thought was a way to milk money.

The source claimed: "It was a low-key meeting but the brothers wanted to speak to someone who had been close to their mother.

"There were some aspects of her life they felt Paul could provide better clarity on. They asked to keep it all under wraps and he respected that. Paul was happy to tell them everything he knew and shed some light on their memories."

Prince Harry wrote about the scenario in his memoir Spare and doubled down on his claim that the former aide was "milking" their mother’s demise.

Harry wrote: "Mummy's former butler had penned a tell-all which actually told nothing.

"It was merely one man's self-justifying, self-centring version of events."

Harry, who was 19 when discovering the existence of the book, added: "My mother once called this butler a dear friend, and trusted him implicitly. We did too. Now this. He was milking her disappearance for money. It made my blood boil."

In response, Paul shared his emotions on his severed ties with the two royals saying: "I've been dismissed and I'm very sad about that."

He added: "He (Harry) has discarded me, but he hasn't thought about all of those years that I spent with his mother, in private, loving her, caring for her, watching out for her."
