A needle in a haystack?
Sharon Stone has put her weight behind the ensemble of the controversial show The Idol, as she praises director Sam Levinson for addressing the “root of crisis in entertainment.”
Taking to her Instagram Story, the 65-year-old actress revealed, “I just watched the first two episodes of @theidol @lilyrose_depp & Abel r so sure footed.”
“#SamLevinson addresses the root of crisis on entertainment; Which comes first the brilliance or the heartache?” she added.
Stone’s appreciation follows a string of negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and criticism by various media outlets over its gratuitous adult themes.
The show also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week, where it received a five-minute standing ovation, bringing tears to the eyes of Levinson.
Meanwhile, its lead stars Lily and Abel have continued to defend the series ahead of its HBO premiere in the first week of July.
At the Grand Palais, the 23-year-old actress tried to provide an explanation for her raunchy portrayal of the character in the show, affirming that her character is “trying to tell you something all the time…” or “express herself in some kind of way” through her outfits.
“I also think that the occasional bareness of the character physically mirrors the bareness that we get to see emotionally in her,” the actress shared.
