Andie MacDowell is embracing the natural course of life.

The 65-year-old actress showed up at the Cannes Film Festival in a floor-length brown colored dress paired with black stilettos and her greying hair on full display.

Speaking to People, MacDowell dished on the importance of treating aging women the same as society does a man, saying, “I like all the terms we use for older men.”

“I want to hold onto those terms. I want to be debonair. Why not? What a beautiful term,” the actress affirmed, adding that “we’ve been brainwashed” into setting double standards for men and women when it comes to aging.

MacDowell acknowledged that “it’s a psychological thing that we’ve bought into because we’ve been fed it for so long,” adding that women “don’t allow ourselves to feel good about ourselves and we even perceive [older men] as sexy, because we’ve been taught this.”

The Groundhog Day actress certainly set a precedent when she decided to stop coloring her hair during the COVID-19 pandemic despite resistance from her managers as she believes that her career is flourishing because she “dove into being an older woman and accepted it.”

MacDowell also reflected on insecurities during the interview, where she admitted to “struggling” with the phenomenon of getting older at a point in life, however, she’s now “much more comfortable” in her own skin.

“I love being an older woman,” she shared. “I really enjoy it. And it doesn’t feel less sexy.”
