Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were called out for being dramatic of their account of the car chase incident

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have doubled down on their account of the paparazzi car chase in New York as they insisted that their experience of the incident was true.

Speaking to US Weekly, an insider said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were "hurt" over being accused of exaggerating their experience.

The source said: "They insist their account of the car chase was absolutely not exaggerated, and for people to say otherwise is so hurtful and out of line."

"As far as staying out of sight and being scared to show their faces, that’s not going to happen.

"[This has] just strengthened their resolve to keep standing up for themselves and speaking out when they feel wronged."

Following the incident, New York Police as well as the couple’s taxi driver downplayed the severity of the incident stating that the chase was nowhere nearly as long, or as dangerous as the couple made it out to be.

This comes after the couple released a statement that they were caught in a two-hour car chase which as per their security "could have been fatal".

"This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers."

"While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.

"Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all involved."
