Rick Allen speaks out for the first time since Florida assault

Musician Rick Allen certainly didn’t see it coming.

The Def Leppard drummer revealed he was completely “blindsided” by the attack outside his hotel after a show in Fort Lauderdale in March.

“I heard a couple of steps and then I just saw this [flash] and the next thing I knew was I was on the ground,” Allen told Good Morning America. “I landed on my backside… hit my head on the pavement.”

Allen held his hand up in the air after being knocked down to assure the attacker that he is “no threat to you,” as he feared being attacked again.

“I don't think he knew who I was, but he must have seen that I wasn't a threat because, you know, I've only got one arm.” Allen is renowned as the one-arm drummer, as he lost his left arm in a car crash in 1984.

One of the onlookers, a woman came to help Allen, however, the suspect attacked her too; though she didn’t suffer any major injuries.

The state police ended up arresting Max Hartley, a 19-year-old from Ohio, near the site of the attack.

He was charged with four counts of criminal mischief and two counts of battery but pleaded not guilty to none.
