Phillip Schofield was captured in recent photographs looking visibly downcast and melancholic as he made his exit from ITV's This Morning.
Accompanied by his mother, Schofield was seen sitting in his car after reportedly traveling 300 miles from London to Cornwall.
Today, it has been disclosed that the decision regarding Schofield's future on the breakfast program was finalized on Friday, allegedly prompted by an ultimatum issued by his co-host, Holly Willoughby.
According to reports, Willoughby presented the channel with a choice: either Schofield would depart from the show or she would.
Schofield, 61, is said to feel that he was left unsupported by This Morning executives, following his announcement on Instagram on Saturday, declaring his departure from the role after a tenure of 21 years.
The decision comes amidst a reported rift between Schofield and Willoughby, who were previously close friends.
Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield have reached a resolution through a private conversation, where Schofield has agreed to step down from his role on the show.
As part of the agreement, he will be offered a new solo-presenting opportunity while retaining the possibility of exploring future projects, including his involvement with shows like Dancing On Ice.
Following his failure to inform Holly Willoughby about his brother's child sexual abuse case, their friendship is reportedly reduced to fragments.
According to an insider from ITV, who spoke to the Mirror, Schofield's departure was was a unanimous decision.
"He was upset, but firm that if he was going to walk away he wanted to keep his roles on The Cube, the British Soap Awards, and Dancing on Ice – crucially, with or without Holly"
"It has all been worked out in the smoothest way possible, but behind the scenes he has told friends he has been hung out to dry."
