Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone must be feeling ecstatic.

On Saturday night, the Cannes Film Festival saw the biggest and loudest standing ovation for Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" premiere.

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone, the three-and-a-half-hour-long epic examines greed, racism, and a troubling and mostly overlooked period in American history.

It held the audience's attention to the point where they stood up and began applauding for nine minutes after the credits concluded and the lights came on.

When Scorsese returned to the festival for the first time since 1985's "After Hours," Cannes was obviously enamoured with what he had brought to the South of France.

And that's good news for Apple Original Films, who handed the visionary an estimated $200 million budget to execute it in the hopes that he would produce one of his characteristic studies of criminality.

But a lot of those films took place on New York's seedy streets. This movie is set in northeastern Oklahoma where Osage people are being killed off one by one for evil reasons.
