Johnny Depp is nonchalant about the criticism he has received since his return to Hollywood after his infamous legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The 59-year-old actor made his anticipated return to the silver screen with the premiere of his upcoming French-language film, Jeanne du Barry, at Cannes Film Festival.

He not only received an exhilarating response to his appearance on the event’s red carpet but was also honored with a standing ovation spanning seven minutes for his film at the premiere.

During an appearance at the press conference alongside the cast and crew of his film, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor had an honest answer to whether he felt “boycotted” by Hollywood.

“Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood?” he affirmed. “You’d have to not have a pulse at that point to feel [like], ‘None of this is happening, this is actually just a weird joke – you’ve been asleep for 35 years!’”

He went on to allude to a slew of dismissals from big franchises after Heard accused him of domestic violence, saying, “Of course, when you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing because of something that is merely a bunch of vowels and consonants floating in the air, you feel a bit boycotted.”

However, Depp noted that he no longer feels boycotted and that’s because “I don’t think about it.”

He continued: “I don’t think about Hollywood. I don’t have much further need for Hollywood myself. “

The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star also referred to the idea that he was making a comeback with Jeanne du Barry    and shared: “I didn’t go anywhere. As a matter of fact, I live about 45 minutes away… Comeback, it’s almost like I’m going to come out and do a tap dance.

“The notion of something like that, it’s a bizarre mystery.”
