Jonny Lee Miller is setting off on a different path besides acting.
The 50-year-old actor took to Instagram Monday to reveal that he has been certified as a volunteer firefighter in New York after completing a five-month course at Suffolk County Fire Academy.
The Trainspotting star, who boosts over 230,000 followers on the platform, announced the news alongside a group photo with his fellow firefighters.
“Today I qualified as a Firefighter 1 after a five month course at Suffolk County Fire Academy,” Miller wrote. “Huge thank you to all the instructors, but especially Chief Sicilian, who took great care of class 2, and never got mad at us (externally).”
“Can't wait to serve the community I love on Fire Island NY,” the actor added.
Miller has kept his fan following updated throughout the course by sharing time-to-time snaps from his training on social media.
According to Chron, the actor has completed the basic level of training in the extensive study of becoming a firefighter, which involves a written exam, a medical exam, and a physical fitness test.
Firefighters of the 1st level are equipped to carry out rescue and extraction, tying the knot, fire control, and detection among other skills.
