Joe Perry has ascribed Joey Kramer’s absence from their current tour to exhaustion.
Aerosmith announced its farewell tour earlier this week and also confirmed that the band’s drummer Kramer will not be a part of it.
"His heart's in the right place, but, listen, playing the drums is an athletic event," Joe said, referencing Kramer’s absence from the drums since the death of his wife last year.
"And there's a certain point where you're just kind of, like,… every joint starts to give out, man,” the guitarist explained.
“So at this point we're not thinking he's gonna be there. We'll see," he added.
Aerosmith, comprising frontman Steven Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, guitarists Perry and Brad Whitford, is set to embark on their tour Peace Out as a homage to their five-decade-long ride together.
They will perform 40 shows spanning from September 2023 to January 2024.
In a statement announcing the tour, the band broached upon Kramer’s absence, saying, "While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of AEROSMITH, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health.
“Joey's unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed," they added.
For the past year, the rock band’s drum tech John Douglas has been filling in for Kramer.
