Shazam! Fury Of The Gods did not seemingly do as well as expected

Shazam! Fury Of The Gods is on a stuttering start as it failed to live up to its expectations in its debut weekend.

While the movie still premiered at the top spot in the weekends domestic box office it grossed at $30.5 million between Friday and Sunday as per Box Office Mojo, which was below expectations of $35 to $40 million.

According to Variety the Warner Bros production cost more than $110 million to make.

The first Shazam! movie opened at $53.5 million and had grossed $140 million domestically and $336 million worldwide.

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes rated it 53% and fans rated it 87%.

The lukewarm rating was also reflected on CinemaScore with a B + grade.

This is a stark contrast in comparison to other Marvel Universe movies which are notorious for dominating the box office especially on the opening weekend.

It was pertinent to mention that Shazam! was in intense competition with Scream VI and Creed III which both set records for their respective franchises.

While it remains to be seen how Shazam! will perform a positive aspect to note is that the domestic box office earned $90.3 million on its 11th weekend of the year which is a notable improvement following the pandemic stricken years that had caused a drought among the cinema industry.

In comparison to other 11th weekends of the year the recent stats reflected as positive upward trend.

In 2020 it made $53.7 million and barely made $17.2 million in 2021 last year it earned $83.4 million which was a stark improvement from its predecessor.

However this is not a full recovery as back in 2019, the pre-pandemic era, it was reported that $139.8 billion was grossed on the 11th weekend of the year.
