Disney’s highly anticipated live action version of The Little Mermaid has already broken records despite not being out in theatres yet.
After the release of the first full trailer of the reimagined movie, during the Academy Awards, it garnered 108 million views in just 24 hours alone.
This made it the most watched trailer for any live-action remakes by Disney after The Lion King.
To elaborate, The Lion King garnered 130 million views.
The Little Mermaid managed to leave behind Aladdin, which gathered 106.5 million views.
It also passed Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Mulan, and Cruel.
This only means that Disney has set up a high bar for the box office.
Hitting the billion mark with each live action release it is expected that The Little Mermaid will follow suit.
For context, Beauty and the Beast earned 1,263,521,12, Aladdin raised 1,054,304,000, and The Lion King with the highest at 1,663,075,401.
