Quentin Tarantino is set to make his mark in the film industry for one last time as the filmmaker is putting together what is now being touted as his final movie.
According to sources, the critically acclaimed producer is preparing to direct a script this fall titled The Movie Critic.
While logline details are currently under wraps, sources have described some details of the story sharing that it is being set against a 1970s Los Angeles background with a female lead in focus.
As per speculation, it is rumoured that Tarantino’s latest work will essay the story of the late Pauline Kael, one of the greatest movie critics, who was also a novelist and essayist.
Kael, who passed away in 2001, was well known for her spats with editors and filmmakers.
She had a short stint as a consultant for Paramount, during the 1970s, which she was granted at the behest of actor Warren Beatty.
Considering the timing of the job and the setting of the script along with Tarantino’s deep and known admiration for Kael the needle seemingly points to her as the subject of interest in the producer’s final work.
Though the project does not have a studio, sources claim that it could go up for nabs as earlier as this week with Sony being the leading studio expected to take the project, considering Tarantino’s tight relationship with its topper Tom Rothman.
Sony was the distributor of the filmmaker’s 2019 magnum opus Once Upon a Time in Hollywood which went on to win two Oscars from a whopping 10 nominations after grossing $377 million worldwide.
Tarantino has long maintained that he only has a limited number of movies in him to direct, stating that he wanted to either direct 10 films or retire by 60.
Considering that he has made nine films so far, if you club two Kill Bill movies into one, and is turning 60 later this month, it is only a matter of time for him to announce the current project as his last.
