Oscars 2023: Read to know which celebrities are NO in this year's occasion

Get ready for the 95th Academy Awards, one of Hollywood's biggest occasions, which will be telecast on Sunday, March 12. The Dolby Theater, which has hosted the celebration since 2002, will be home to this year's Oscars, which will bring together the biggest names in the entertainment sector. Yet, not every Hollywood star is certain to get an invitation to the gala.

Some well-known people have previously been prohibited from attending the Oscars. One of the most recent is Will Smith. As the Oscars were airing, the Men in Black actor smacked comedian Chris Rock after he made a few comments about Will's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Will was immediately informed by the Oscars that he could no again represent the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at any functions for the following ten years.

Who else has been prohibited from going to the Academy Awards and why?

Richard Gere was imprisoned for a stunning 20 years and appeared in some of the most adored films of all time, including Beautiful Woman and An Officer and a Gentleman.

Richard spoke out against the Chinese regime in 1993 while appearing on stage at the Oscars to deliver the award for art direction only.

The actor lashed out at China for its continued battle with Tibet and proposed that Beijing pull its troops out and grant Tibet independence. Richard was prohibited from attending the Oscars for 20 years because the Academy deemed his statement to be too inflammatory.

The Academy also disqualified several celebrities for more serious offences: Roman Polanski, a director, was expelled from the Academy in 2018, more than 40 years after he was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. Bill Cosby was disqualified due to charges of sexual assault.

After facing numerous allegations of sexual assault, Harvey Weinstein was given a lifetime ban in 2017.
