Princess Diana and King Charles III were in an arranged marriage, according to Jemima Khan

Jemima Khan, a close friend of the late Princess Diana, was in an "arranged" marriage with King Charles III.

Speaking on Lorraine to promote her new movie What’s Love Got To Do With It, the film maker shared how it was inspired by her own former marriage to Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan when she spoke about Diana’s own marriage.

Referring to Pakistan’s culture of arranged marriage, which has largely been misunderstood by the world, said that Princess Diana’s own marriage was an arranged union.

"I mean [their marriage was] as close to arranged as you could get in that it was an appropriate match chosen by the parents and a sort of committee of family members."

"The royal family used to pretty much always have arranged marriages," she added. "And it's still the majority in the world..."

Princess Diana and King Charles III's relationship at a glance 

The late princess and the monarch first met each other in November 1977 at her home in Althorp House in Northamptonshire. 

Charles at the time was dating Diana sister at the time when they were introduced to each other.

They began dating in 1980, and King Charles proposed only a few months later.

The two married in an extravagant wedding ceremony on July 29, 1981.

However their marriage came to an end after years of adultery and mistrust which saw the pair divorce in 1996.
