ChatGPT just got a new rival Bard, a Google alternative that is promising a competitive rivalry

A ChatGPT alternative is set to take the world by storm after Google announced Monday of its launch of a chatbot AI project, Bard.

According to a blogpost by the tech giant’s CEO Sundar Pichai, Bard is an "experimental conversational AI service" that is built on Google’s platform Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA).

"Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models," Pichai revealed.

"It draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses."

As of now, it is a waiting game to see if reliance on the AI system will result in biased or racist behaviour, as ChatGPT seemingly did in the past.

The tech giant will be releasing a lightweight version of LaMDA, only for a small number of trusted users, which has far less system requirements than its fully decked out counterpart.

After the results, the company will then decide the direction of Bard's fate.

"We’ll combine external feedback with our own internal testing to make sure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety and groundedness in real-world information," Pichai said.

"We’re excited for this phase of testing to help us continue to learn and improve Bard’s quality and speed."
