The Roku Channel is the official broadcaster of the Miss Universe competition for the first time in the pageant's history. Previously, the tournament was usually broadcast on Fox.

Dozens of pageant winners from around the world will converge in New Orleans on Saturday evening to compete in the 71st Miss Universe pageant.

According to the Miss Universe website, 84 contestants will gather on Saturday at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

TicketMaster reports that all seats for both the 7 p.m. competition and the 11 a.m. dress rehearsal are already sold out, which is unfortunate for supporters trying to book an emergency flight to Louisiana.

In a statement posted to the Miss Universe website, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell expressed her "honour" at being the pageant's host.

"The City of New Orleans and the Miss Universe Organization share common values of celebrating inclusion, culture and the empowerment of women," said Cantrell in the statement.

"Former Miss Universe delegates and winners have gone on to become surgeons, diplomats, politicians and business leaders, and they all champion social causes that are important to them. Hosting this event demonstrates the significant global impact an international city like New Orleans has on the world's tourism and cultural stages," she went on.

"We are honored to host the 71st annual Miss Universe pageant and show people around the globe why New Orleans is the best in the world at executing major events, festivals, conferences and conventions with a culture that is absolutely unmatched."

The pageant features personal essays, in-depth interviews, national costumes, and competitions in swimsuits and evening gowns.
