Lizzo’s People Champion Award presented to her by proud mother

Lizzo is making her mother proud.

The person who gave Lizzo the People's Champion Award on Tuesday is the only one who truly understands that she was destined to be a celebrity.

Shari Johnson-Jefferson, the Grammy-winning singer's mother, said her daughter “has shown us all that we don’t have to conform to anyone’s standards in order to be happy.”

“I know that Lizzo has literally saved lives,” she added. “No one is more deserving of this honor. I am so proud of her.”

In addition to honoring her mother, Lizzo also highlighted 17 other activists.

According to a news statement, the singer was chosen for the award due to her “groundbreaking contributions to music and television, as well as her commitment to championing overall diversity and inclusivity across race, gender, sexuality, and size.”
