Meghan Markle: Speaking out about suicidal thoughts 'wasn’t easy decision to make'

Meghan Markle revealed her motivation behind speaking out about having suicidal thoughts.

During an acceptance speech at the Ripple of Hope Award Gala, the 41-year-old actress revealed she chose to open up about the dark period of her life because “I don’t want anyone to feel alone” — adding that when you are that low it can be hard “you don’t see a way out.”

The Duchess of Sussex admitted that it “wasn’t an easy decision to make, as you can imagine.”

Meghan Markle appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show in 2021, weeks after stepping down from her royal role with Prince Harry, and made explosive claims about being treated unfairly by the royal family, all that which led her to the brink of self-harm.

During the speech, Markle stressed the need to “speak honestly about your own experience,” noting that it “gives other people space and the courage to do the same.”

The Suits alum said she wanted to give an “example of resilience” to the ones suffering, and an “example of ‘there is a happy ending’.”

“I think that’s what most people are probably seeking out in those moments,” she added.
