Brendan Fraser reveals he 'starved' himself to get in shape for George of Jungle

Brendan Fraser is keen on doing right by his character.

In a recent appearance in Vanity’s Actors on Actors series, the 54-year-old actor caught up with his Airhead co-star Adam Sandler, as they discussed each other’s breakthrough roles throughout their career.

Sandler brought up Fraser’s 1997 Tarzan spoof titled, George of the Jungle, gushing about his muscular physique in the movie.

“You weren’t supposed to do that to us. You did right by the character. But you did wrong by us, man. You made us feel bad about ourselves. Were you oiled up at all during ‘George’?”

The Mummy alum revealed he actually “starved” of carbohydrates during the production and candidly dished on one of its horrid repercussions.

“I was waxed. Starved of carbohydrates,” Fraser said.

He continued: “I would drive home after work and stop to get something to eat. I needed some cash one day, and I went to the ATM, and I couldn’t remember my PIN number because my brain was misfiring. Banging on the thing. I didn’t eat that night.”

The box office hit earned over $170 million and has continued to remain one of Fraser’s most iconic roles from the 1990s.
