When Prince William announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton, the world was then swept into the royal wedding fever and one detail everyone could not stop talking about was her meaningful ring.
The pair then stepped out for their official photocall and engagement interview with Middleton dressed in an elegant blue wrap, showing off the enormous sapphire-and-diamond ring once worn by her mother-in-law Princess Diana.
In the chat, William said, "It’s my mother’s engagement ring, thought it was quite nice because obviously, she’s not going to be around to share in the fun and excitement of it all."
"I’m sure everyone recognizes it from previous times," he said, with the soon-to-be royal bride adding, “I just hope I look after it."
Interestingly Prince Harry then actually inherited it post mother's demise but he offered it to his bro William so that he could propose his ladylove.
And while many current royal fans associate the piece more closely with Middleton, the story behind the stunning gem goes back to the winter of 1981.
