Chicago P.D. and Jesse Lee Soffer have different paths ahead.

Fans of Chicago P.D. who watched Jesse Lee Soffer and his character Jay Halstead exit the stage right after nine or more seasons on Wednesday night witnessed the end of an era.

As he looks ahead, Soffer posted a message of thanks on social media.

“For anyone that’s ever been a Halstead fan, I just want you to know that I’m grateful. Thank you for going on this journey with me. I’m just grateful,” he posted on Twitter.

The actor live-tweeted the episode, "A Good Man," in which Halstead, like Jason Beghe's character Voight, came to terms with his progression into the murky world of law enforcement and his frantic need to stop it.

He didn't like the man he was becoming into. He took a position with the Army located in Bolivia, where he and his team will hunt down the deadliest drug cartels, despite the fact that he and Hailey (Tracy Spiridakos) had only recently gotten married.

Although Hailey is devastated that they would have to be apart for at least eight months, she realizes the gravity of the situation and releases him.
