Jared Leto to play late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld in his biopic

Jared Leto will be playing legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in his biopic and will also be producing the film.

The Oscar-winning Jared Leto is going to star and produce in the biopic of the late German fashion designer, creative director, artist, and photographer, Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leto will be producing the feature with Emma Ludbrook through their production company, Paradox.

Leto spoke to the sister publication of the outlet, Women's Wear Daily, that, "I feel like this is a full-circle moment, and Karl would be proud of what we are doing."

He added, "There are a multitude of relationships to explore. Karl had a career that spanned 50-plus years, so both personally and professionally, he was close to a number of people.

Leto further said that they are going to "home in" on important relationships that were part of Lagerfeld's life in different time periods.

Karl Lagerfeld's fashion house is backing the movie and also told WWD it chronicles "key relationships in Karl Lagerfeld’s life, told through an unpredictable lens, much like the man himself."

The movie is at the early stages of development with no director attached, but Leto brought in three of Lagerfeld's close confidants.

Lagerfeld's fashion house chief executive, Pier Paolo Righi, senior vp image and communications Caroline Lebar, and personal assistant and bodyguard Sébastien Jondeau, all three will serve as the executive producers of the feature film and give an insight into his life.

Leto continued of Lagerfeld that he is going to portray him "as honestly as possible" and is going to explore "what’s behind the mask."
