The Daily Show team expressed shock after Trevor Noah made the announcement that he was departing the show.

On September 29, Trevor Noah announced on air in front of the live audience that "time is up."

According to Deadline, Noah told the audience about the news of his departure before informing most of his staff.

The Comedy Central members were "blindsided" by the news, but sources from the show reveal that it was "imperative" that Noah take his fans into confidence during the taping of September 29's show.

Comedy Central also clarified that there was no exact timetable for Noah's departure and it was not as planned as the exit of James Cordon from The Late Late Show, with a view to a spring 2023 exit.

There are other projects in store for Noah as he is going to perform at the Toronto Scotiabank Arena in Canada and has two shows booked in Halifax and Orlando.

The documentary series The Tipping Point, featuring Trevor Noah, is expected to air on MSNBC and Peacock later this year.
