Scooter Braun has recently reflected on his feud with Taylor Swift over the acquisition of the singer’s master recordings.
According to Page Six, Braun purchased the Big Machine Records in 2019 which also included the rights to the master recordings of You Belong With Me hit-maker’s first six studio albums.
However, Braun, who is a well-known music manager and have worked with Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and other singers, expressed his “regrets” over this conflict and how it turned out to be a “learning curve” for him.
“The regret I have there is that I made the assumption that everyone — once the deal was done — was going to have a conversation with me, see my intent, see my character and say, ‘Great, let’s be in business together,’ and I made that assumption with people that I didn’t know,” said Braun in a podcast interview with NPR’s The Limits with Jay Williams this week.
Braun continued, “I was excited to work with every artist on the label. So, when we finalised the deal, I started making phone calls to say, ‘Hey, I'm a part of this.' And before I could even do that, I made four phone calls; I started to do those phone calls—all hell broke loose.”
Speaking of Swift’s reaction, the singer described the acquisition as her “worst case scenario” because of "incessant, manipulative bullying" from Braun's side.
The music manager believed that a lot of things “got lost in translation” especially when there’s a “conflict with someone”.
Concluding his interview, he added, “I choose to look at it as a learning lesson, a growing lesson, and I wish everyone involved well. And I’m rooting for everyone to win because I don’t believe in rooting for people to lose.”
Meanwhile, Braun sold Swift’s masters in 2020 for over $300 million, after which, the singer has taken up the initiative to re-record her first six albums. The crooner has already released Fearless and Red this year for her fans.
