The 2023 Met Gala will be honouring the work of the late courtier Karl Lagerfeld, as announced by the Institute.

On September 30, The Metropolitan Institute of Art announced that the 2023 Met Gala will be based on the legacy of fashion left by Karl Lagerfeld.

Every year, the exhibit is showcased on Fifth Avenue in the Tisch Gallery, and the theme of the Met Gala is taken from the ongoing spring exhibit at the Metropolitan Institute of Art. The 2023 Met Gala will be titled 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.'

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the museum stated that the theme will focus "on the designer’s stylistic vocabulary as it was expressed in through lines—aesthetic themes that appear time and again—in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019."

The museum also said that it will emphasise Karl's "unique working methodology."

Max Hollein, the Marina Kellen French Director of The Met, said that "Karl Lagerfeld was one of the most captivating, prolific, and recognisable forces in fashion and culture, known as much for his extraordinary designs and tireless creative output as for his legendary persona."

German-born courtier, Karl Lagerfeld was the creative director for Chanel, Fendi and Chloe before his death in 2019 at the age of 85.

The exhibit will showcase 150 pieces as well as Lagerfeld’s sketches, and it is slated to run from May 5 through July 16, 2023.
