Wolf Hall author Hilary Mantel, who passed away on Friday at the age of 70, was known for her keen observation on British royal family. According to her prediction, Prince George, the oldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales would never ever be crowned king as she saw no future for the monarchy.
In September last year, the late writer spoke to The Times and said that the Prince Williams would be the last monarch after his father King Charles III who succeeded his late mother Queen Elizabeth II reported via Independent.
“I think it’s a fair prediction, but let’s say I wouldn’t put money on it,” she remarked.
Mantel continued, “It’s hard to understand the thinking behind the monarchy in the modern world when people are just seen as celebrities.”
The iconic alleged that the late monarch and King Charles did their jobs “well and take it as seriously as anyone could”.
Reflecting on Harry and Meghan Markle’s rift with the royal family, Mantel mentioned, “I think it’s far too soon to have an opinion. And anyway, all of us commentators are part of the problem. “I’d like us all to say less. And let them have a chance to find some resolution.”
For the unversed, Mantel was one of British’s most recognised novelists of her time. She was awarded with a CBE in 2006 and even made Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2014 for her service to literature.
