Top Gun Maverick hits harder than Thanos.

By knocking on the Marvel box office door, Tom Cruise's smash hit blockbuster film "Top Gun: Maverick" just reached new heights.

The record-breaking sequel passed "Avengers: Infinity War" this week to rank as the sixth-highest domestic grossing film of all time with a total of $679 million. It barely edged out "Infinity War," which had been holding down the position at $678M for years.

You may recall that 'Maverick' recently dethroned 'Titanic' to take the #7 slot. It is currently on a snowball run and aiming for 'Black Panther,' which is currently at #5.

Another Marvel movie, of course, with a budget of around $700 million, so it might take a bit longer for Tom Cruise to perhaps surpass it. However, analysts claim that it is well within its grasp, particularly given that the film doesn't appear to be leaving cinemas any time soon.

Even if it's possible that "Top Gun: Maverick" can unseat "Black Panther," it's likely that as the sequel approaches in the fall, "Black Panther" will retake its reign. Many anticipate that Disney will rerelease the original film to advertise the new one; if viewers go, this will boost ticket sales once more.
