Christina Ricci is not a fan of the 1995 Universal Pictures film Casper, even though she is well aware of how much her fans adore it.

The actress recently appeared as a guest on Marc Maron's WTF podcast, where she discussed her early career.

Ricci and Maron discuss how she entered the Hollywood before moving on to two of her early masterpieces, The Addams Family and Casper.

Ricci, 42, didn't waste any time in mentioning Casper as one of her least favourite movies. This isn't because she thinks the movie is subpar; rather, Ricci feels inadequate about her performance in it.

"If you actually watch Casper, I'm terrible," Ricci told Maron.

"People get so upset when I say that. And I'm like, 'No, it's a wonderful movie. It's a childhood treasure. But I am terrible in it,'" she said.

When Ricci was cast in the paranormal comedy-drama based on the Casper the Friendly Ghost comic book character, she was only 13 years old.

The movie is a masterpiece and a Halloween tradition for many of her fans, especially young people who grew up in the 1990s.

But Ricci claimed that she is unable to overcome her lack of effort on her part.

"There was a lot going on in my [life]," she described.

The actress continued: "Everything was very difficult. I was always annoyed, and I just don't think I tried very hard, to tell you the truth. Embarrassingly, I don't think I tried as hard as maybe I should have."

When Ricci watched the movie with her 8-year-old son, Freddie Heerdegen again, her feelings remain unchanged.

"And I remember thinking, 'Wow. Okay. That was not a believable line-reading at all. Just no commitment.' "
