Richard Madeley reveals the reason for his absence on Good Morning Britain

Richard Madeley discusses his unannounced absence on Good Morning Britain

Richard Madeley confessed that he is currently on a short contract that could end at any time.

Richard Madeley has finally opened up about the reason for his absence on Good Morning Britain.

Richard Madeley has been co-hosting Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid for months, but lately, he has been seen less frequently on the show and his space has been filled by other hosts.

However, the curiosity was put to rest as the presenter finally broke his silence on the issue.

Speaking on Sunday Brunch, he confessed that he is currently on a short contract that could end at any time.

Madeley explained that the chair alongside Reid has been "a rotating gig" since Piers Morgan left the show in March 2021.

"Since Piers left, as you know, his chair has been a kind of rotating gig and all sorts of presenters have come in and done it.”

"It is true that of late I’ve kind of risen to the top of that pile I suppose," he continued. "But I don’t know for how long as I’m on quite a short contract."

He also said that he is currently on a "big break" during the summer but will be back in the autumn.

He appeared nonchalant while expressing uncertainty about the future of the show.

"But as for next year I have no idea and that’s fine for me. I’m not chasing it, you know."

"If they turn around and say ‘We’re relaunching the programme and thanks Richard for all the fish but we’re going to use so and so,’ that would be fine with me."
