Billie Joe Armstrong decides to ‘renounce’ U.S. citizenship

Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, rocker Billie Joe Armstrong has no place for patriotism.

The leader of Green Day expressed his annoyance at the US Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which effectively takes away Americans' fundamental right to an abortion, during a performance in London on Friday.

The 50-year-old singer might be planning on leaving the States and moving to the U.K.

“I'm renouncing my citizenship," said Armstrong onstage, amidst a concert in London. "I'm coming here.”

He continued, “There's just too much stupid in the world to go back to that miserable excuse for a country. Oh, I'm not kidding. You're going to get a lot of me in the coming days.”

Armstrong is not a stranger to combining musical art with the political perspective. The 2004 hit song "American Idiot" by Green Day was directed toward the American media environment following 9/11.
