Millie Bobby Brown, Matthew Modine are not ‘strangers’ in the Stranger Things

Millie Bobby Brown first met Matthew Modine in her experimental prison cell in Stranger Things, and the two immediately stroked a strong connection.

That isn't as surprising as it seems. Brown was on the set of Stranger Things Season 1 where she plays Eleven, a young telekinetic girl nurtured in the jail-like Hawkins Laboratory by a father figure but a cunning scientist named Dr. Brenner (Modine), whom she refers to as Papa.

Brown was already in character — dressed in a hospital gown with her hair shorn — when show creators Matt and Ross Duffer brought Modine over to say hello.

In an interview with Netflix Tudum, Modine says, “The Duffer brothers were so excited for me to meet this young, new talent — they were giddy”.

The 63-year-old actor continues, “They were so happy with the work that she was doing... ” giving Brown a playful look.

He further adds “And I’ve worked with a lot with animals, so I knew how to work with young children—”

While the 18-year-old British actress cuts him off, “You know that’s what they say about the older generation, too,” and teases. “You’ve got to really take care of them—”

“Bring them a biscuit,” interferes Modine, who played Brenner.

Not giving up, Brown once again jumps in, “Give him some milk,” adding, “Let them talk about back in the day.”

The actors start laughing together. Brown and Modine frequently complete each other's sentences because of their deep friendship bond.
