Queen Elizabeth turns down ‘Oldie of the Year’ award, ‘You are only as old as you feel’

The British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II has ‘politely but firmly turned down a magazine’s Oldie of the Year title, saying that ‘you are only as old as you feel.’

The 95-year-old Elizabeth, who is nation's longest-reigning monarch, is due to mark her Platinum Jubilee next year after 70 years as Queen.

She turned down the award for a tabloid, saying that ‘you are only as old as you feel and she doesn’t believe she fits the criteria.’

The Queen turned 95 on April 2021. Her husband Prince Philip died at the age of 99 in April, days before her birthday.

Her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, was awarded Oldie of the Year title in 2011.

The Queen's comment that you are "as old as you feel" is also a nudge to let us all know she is not going to step down as Monarch, said royal expert Angela Levin on Wednesday.

According to royal correspondent Richard Palmer, this year’s main Oldie of the Year award went to the French-American actress, dancer and writer Leslie Caron, 90.
